Alanis Morissette Biography

8th March is officially Alanis Morissette Day in Canada.

Morissette started writing songs at the age of 9.

Her favorite drink is Baileys on ice.

Morissette's band is unofficially known as 'Sexual Chocolate'.

Leonardo DiCaprio invited Morissette on a Cuban vacation with a group of friends. She went along, and even did an impromptu café concert.

When 'Jagged Little Pill' hit the 1 million sales mark, Maverick Records boss Madonna gave Morissette a platinum nail polish to celebrate.

Although she has never named names, there has been widespread speculation that the object of Morissette’s anger in ‘You Oughta Know’ was Dave Coulier.

Morissette suffered from anorexia nervosa and bulimia between ages 14-18 when she was pressured into losing weight by record executives. They told her that to be successful she had to be thin, and she lived on carrots, coffee and melba toast. Her weight was fluctuating by as much as 15-20 pounds.

Morissette has a twin brother, Wade, who is a singer-songwriter turned yoga instructor. She has an older brother, Chad.

She had a strict Roman Catholic upbringing, reflected in some of her songs.

Shortly after arriving in LA from Toronto, Morissette was mugged at gunpoint.
