Trivia

David Essex

Height: 5’ 10” (1.78 m).

Is a gypsy and a past president of the Romany Union of Great Britain [Romany folk is another term for gypsy].

He wrote the single ‘Rock On’ (1973) intending it to be the soundtrack of the film ‘That’ll be the Day’ (1973). Producers decided it was ‘too weird’ and merely included it as one of the songs in the movie. The single proved them wrong, it was hugely successful and eventually went Gold.

Has a passion for motorcycles and at one time owned 100 bikes.

Owns a 750cc Triumph T140E(S) Bonneville Electro motorbike, given to him by the workers of Triumph Motorcycles Ltd when he and Formula 1 racing driver James Hunt promoted the model, to help the workers’ co-operative at the Meriden factory.
