Don Johnson Biography

He played Sonny Crockett in the wildly-cinematic TV cop drama 'Miami Vice', a role which made him a superstar, a kitsch legend and for which he'll forever be remembered.

Don Johnson, a Flat Creek, Missouri native, first studied acting at A.C.T. in San Francisco. One of his earliest appearances was as a 'Dating Game' contestant. Kicking around Hollywood, young and handsome, Johnson worked steadily and garnered a reputation as a rakish ladies' man.

At 22, Johnson began dating 14-year-old Melanie Griffith, after a rumoured affair with her mother, Tippi Hedren, while all three were shooting 'The Harrad Experiment'. Johnson would go on to marry Griffith twice over the next 20 years and he is the father of a total of five children.

Johnson vaulted into pop stardom and kitsch legend as Detective Sonny Crockett in the wildly cinematic, ground-breaking television cop drama 'Miami Vice', and has never had to look back.
