- Nickname is Little Elvis and is 5’ 6” (1.68m) tall.
- Is left-handed.
- His favourite guitarist is Eric Clapton.
- When he replaced Peter Gabriel as lead vocalist for Genesis, in 1975, many fans did not even notice the change, possibly due to the fact that not only did the two singers sound similar but that Collins had been singing back up to Gabriel since 1970.
- Been ridiculed in several “South Park” (1997) episodes since beating its creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, for Best Original Song Oscar in 1999.
- Admits that the acrimony surrounding his split with first wife, Andrea Bertorelli, was reflected in his hit single ‘In the Air Tonight’.
