- Is 5’ 10” (1.78m)

- Sometimes credited as Larry Bishop.

- Best friend, Billy Crystal, was born eight days after him, also in New York and they met when they acted together in a 1971 television episode of ‘All in the Family’.

- One of his trademarks is that he often includes references to his previous films.

- Is a big Beach Boys fan.

- Was parodied in ‘South Park’ – episode ‘Butt Out’ – criticising his objection to smoking.

- Can be a scary director: During the filming of the train chase scene in ‘Stand By Me’ (1986), in order to make actors Wil Wheaton and Jerry O’Connell look frightened enough, he shouted at them until they cried, whereupon he re-filmed the scene, happy with the result.

- Twelve days into principal photography, he replaced Ted Griffin as director of ‘Rumor Has It’ (2005).
