Palin’s talent for the Miss Alaska contest was playing the flute.
Palin is a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association.
As mayor of Wassila, Palin kept a jar with the names of residents. Once a week she pulled a name from it and picked up the phone to ask "How's the city doing?"
Palin applied for her first passport in 2007.
Her first son was named Track as a tribute to Palin’s love of running and because her was born during track and field season. Track enlisted in the US army on 11th September 2001 (9/11).
Palin’s husband, Todd bears the nicknamed of “first dude”. Todd Palin is one-eighth Yup’ik Eskimo and races snowmobiles. He is a four-time champion of the ‘Iron Dog Race’.
Bumper stickers in Alaska decry that it is “The coldest state with the hottest governor”.
Palin has a bear skin on the sofa in her office and stuffed Alaskan king crab on the coffee table.
In 1996, Palin fired chief librarian Mary Ellen Emmons following an exchange with Emmons at a council meeting. In the meeting, Emmons said she would refuse to ban books in response to Palin asking her how she would feel if she was asked to do so by the mayor. Emmons was later reinstated following public outcry.
