- A diminutive 5’ 4” (1.63m), but a curvy 34-26-38, known particularly for her legs, her lips, and her hair.

- Has studied and practised Buddhism since 1975.

- Was married to Ike Turner for 16 years, although they were together for 20 years (she doesn’t count the last two years during which they were getting divorced, as part of the marriage).

- Has two stepsons, Ike Junior and Michael, Ike’s sons from his first marriage to Lorraine Taylor. (Ike and Lorraine were only legally divorced in 1974.)

- Participated in the USA for Africa recording of 'We Are The World', 28 January 1985.

- Turned down the role of Shug Avery in 'The Colour Purple' (1985), which went to Margaret Avery.

- Turned down a role in 'Thelma and Louise' (1991).

• 7-time Grammy Award winner

- On 3 December 2005, she received the 2005 Kennedy Center Honours - other recipients include Tony Bennett, Robert Redford, Suzanne Farrell and Julie Harris.
