Travis Biography

When they formed in 1990, Travis intended to be an occasional band. Francis Healy, Andy Dunlop and Neil Primrose were all at art school together, and Dougie Payne joined later. On graduation, and with that ‘career question’ hanging over them, the boys began to take Travis more seriously, and they released ‘All I Wanna Do Is Rock’.
Enter Andy McDonald and his fresh new label ‘Independiente’ - as yet with no acts on the books. As a producer for Go!Discs, McDonald had heard Travis and wanted to sign them, but was prevented by the parent company, Polygram Records. Now his own boss, McDonald paid for Travis to move to London. He found them a manager and got Healy, as the songwriter, to sign a publishing contract with Sony/ATV Music.
From their 1997 debut album, ‘Good Feeling', singles 'Happy’ and ‘Tied to the 90s’ went into the UK top ten charts. The release of ‘The Man Who’ was synchronised with a handy support slot for Oasis in 2000, the tour providing ample publicity for the band, and the album went platinum six times in the UK. Nominated ‘Select Magazine's Album of the Year’, ‘The Man Who’ paved the way for ‘The Invisible Band’ in June 2001, just prior to States-side summer gigs with Dido. Two years later, the band issued ‘12 Memories’.
Looking to consolidate on their successes Travis released ‘Travis: Singles’ in 2004.
