- Midler’s mother was a huge fan of female movie stars and named her daughters Bette, after Bette Davis (although mispronouncing it ‘Bet’ rather than ‘Betty’); Susan, after Susan Hayward; and Judy, after Judy Garland.

- Two of her hits were chosen for The American Film Institute’s ‘The 100 Years of the Greatest Songs’ in June 2004. They were ‘The Rose’ (1979) and ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’ (1988).

- The role of Dolores/Sister Mary Clarence, played by Whoopi Goldberg, in the comedy crime caper ‘Sister Act’ (1992) was originally written for Midler.

- Was in one episode of the popular television ‘Murphy Brown’ in 1998.
