- He had 6 daughters with wife Betty Shabazz: Attallah, Qubilah, Ilyasah, Gamilah Malaak and Malikah.

- In his teenage years, Malcolm and a friend were both renowned for their reddish-brown hair, leading to the nickname, “Red”. In order to distinguish between the two men, the names of associated cities prefaced “Red”; Malcom X subsequently became “Detroit Red”.
