- Occasional nickname: Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

- A diminutive 5’ 4” (1.63m), but a curvy 34-26-38, known particularly for her legs, her lips, and her hair.

- Has studied and practised Buddhism since 1975.

- Was married to Ike Turner for 16 years, although they were together for 20 years (she doesn’t count the last 2 yrs during which they were getting divorced, as part of the marriage).

- Has two stepsons, Ike Junior and Michael, Ike’s sons from his first marriage to Lorraine Taylor. (Ike and Lorraine were only legally divorced in 1974.)

- Participated in the USA for Africa recording of “We Are The World”, 28 January 1985.

- Turned down the role of Shug Avery in “The Colour Purple” (1985), which went to Margaret Avery.

- Turned down a role in “Thelma and Louise” (1991).

- Most successful female rock artist ever:
• Record sales of over 60 million (1983 – 1999)
• Has sold more concert tickets than any other female performer in history
• 7-time Grammy Award winner

- On 3rd December 2005, she received the 2005 Kennedy Center Honours, other recipients include Tony Bennett, Robert Redford, Suzanne Farrell and Julie Harris.
