Green Day
- Often compared to the first wave of punk rock bands, such as the Sex Pistols, The Clash, the Ramones and the Buzzcocks, with much influence from Elvis Costello.
- Most of Green Day’s songs are fast-paced and shorter than the average track length of four minutes.
- Second only to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers for having the most number ones (they have eight) on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart.
- Drew a crowd of 130,000 over two days for a concert on their ‘American Idiot’ world tour, one of the largest crowds ever drawn for a rock concert.
- The band has won a total of three Grammy awards (1994, 2005, 2006), several MTV Video Music Awards and other industry and fan-based awards.
- On 1 August 2005, it was announced that Green Day had rescinded the master rights to their pre-‘Dookie’ material from Lookout! Records, citing breach of contract regarding unpaid royalties, an issue that had been in existence for quite some time, and involved other bands signed to the label as well.
