- Recorded the song ‘Whatever Gets You Through the Night’ (1974) with John Lennon.

- All-time favourite singer is the legendary “Gentleman” Jim Reeves (1923-1964).

- Copied his idol, Buddy Holly, and began wearing glasses. His eyes adjusted to the lenses after a while and he has been wearing glasses ever since.

- The late Freddie Mercury, of rock band Queen, was a close friend and Elton performed at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert.

- Posthumous tributes are something Elton does particularly well. These include songs for Princess Diana, ‘Candle in the Wind’ (1997); for fashion designer Gianni Versace, ‘You Can Make History (Young Again)’ (1996); for tennis star Billie Jean King, ‘Philadelphia Freedom’ (1975); for Rocket Records messenger Guy Burchett, killed in a motorcycle accident, ‘Song for Guy’ (1978); and for Beatles band member John Lennon, ‘Empty Garden (Hey Hey Johnny)’ (1982).

- Has 10 godchildren, including Sean Lennon, John Lennon’s son; - Brooklyn Beckham, David and Victoria’s eldest son; and Elizabeth Hurley’s son Damian Charles.

- Voted 49th Greatest Rock ‘n’ Roll Artist of all time by Rolling Stone magazine.

- Counts Billy Joel, Billy Connolly and David Beckham amongst his friends.

- Co-owns Le Dome restaurant on Hollywood’s Sunset Strip.

- Partner, David Furnish, made a television documentary about Elton, ‘Elton John: Tantrums & Tiaras’ (1997).
