[h3]Best known as the charismatic front man for soul-disco superstars, ‘Hot Chocolate’, Errol Brown was born in Jamaica, but moved to the UK when he was 12-years-old. [/h3]

His big break came in 1969 when, working on a reworked reggae version of the [urlnew=http://www.thebiographychannel.co.uk/biography_home/794:0/John_Lennon.htm]John Lennon[/urlnew] song 'Give Peace A Chance' with a group of friends, he was informed that he could not change Lennon's song without his permission.

He sent a copy of the demo to Apple, Lennon’s own label. Amazingly John Lennon loved the version and it was released on the 'Apple' label. A secretary at the company coined the name 'The Hot Chocolate Band' which Errol and friends later shortened to 'Hot Chocolate'.

With Errol Brown as lead singer, the group released their first self-penned record entitled 'Love Is Life', which reached number 6 in the charts in early 1970.

With Brown’s charismatic image and unique voice, the group amassed a total of over 30 hits over the next fifteen years, including ‘It Started With A Kiss, ‘You Sexy Thing’ and ‘Everyone’s A Winner’. They also became the only group ever to have a hit for fifteen consecutive years in the UK.

In 1981 'Hot Chocolate' performed for [urlnew=http://www.thebiographychannel.co.uk/biography_home/1388:0/Prince_Charles.htm]Prince Charles[/urlnew] and [urlnew=http://www.thebiographychannel.co.uk/biography_home/324:0/Diana_Spencer.htm]Lady Diana[/urlnew] at one of their pre-wedding receptions, before an audience of Heads of State and assorted Royalty at Buckingham Palace.

In 1985 Errol left the band and took time out to spend more time with his wife and young children, resurfacing in 1990 and 1993 to embark on successful solo tours of the UK.

His career was reignited with the inevitable ‘Greatest Hits Compilation’ in 1997. He also helped with the promotion of the classic: 'You Sexy Thing' from the movie 'The Full Monty', released by EMI Records in 1997, performing live on ‘Top of the Pops’ when the single reached position number 6.

Errol hit the charts again in February 1998 when EMI released the single 'It Started With A Kiss', again with an appearance on TOTP. Sell out UK tours in 1998 & 1999 followed.

In November 2003, Errol received an MBE in the Queen’s Honours List, for services to the music industry.
