Mark Richard Hamill filmography
As a consequence of Mark’s father’s career in the US Navy, the family moved regularly, so Mark’s early years encompassed regular travel within the United States and abroad. He also spent some years in Japan, graduating from High School there.
After his graduation, the Hamills moved back to the Unites States, to California, where Mark attended Los Angeles City College, studying Theatre Arts.
In addition to voiceover parts, early roles included parts in American series such as 'The Cosby Show' and 'General Hospital', but his first real success came in 1977, when he followed the advice of his fellow actor and friend, Robert Englund, and got the part of Luke Skywalker, in 'Star Wars'. His fame mirrored that of the film, which became a worldwide box office sensation.
This has proved a mixed blessing, however. The public’s absolute association of him with the Skywalker character made it difficult for Mark to break out of the mould of the young hero and, despite some notable film successes, he concentrated principally on theatre work, with roles in 'Amadeus', 'The Nerd' and 'The Elephant Man'.
Besides stage acting, he rekindled his voiceover talents. He is now one of the most prolific voiceover actors for animated films in Hollywood, with roles as The Joker in 'Batman' and Hobgoblin in 'Spiderman' among his hundreds of series and features credits, which also include interactive PC games.
Other work has included writing scripts for television, as well as comic books, and he made his directorial debut with 'Comic Book: The Movie', in 2004.
