Jennifer Connelly filmography
[h3]Jennifer began working at the age of 10 and, as a child star, she spent her formative years modelling for the Ford Agency. [/h3]
Her numerous shoots for magazines and commercials took her all over the world, and early credits include parts in a [urlnew=http://www.thebiographychannel.co.uk/biography_home/1780:0/Duran_Duran.htm]Duran Duran[/urlnew] video and the cult British TV classic, ‘Tales Of The Unexpected’.
By the time she was 12, Jennifer was working in Rome on the set of ‘Once Upon A Time In America’. During her teenage years she appeared in ‘Creepers’, ‘Seven Minutes From Heaven’ and ‘Labyrinth’, alongside rock legend [urlnew=http://www.thebiographychannel.co.uk/biography_home/612:0/David_Bowie.htm]David Bowie[/urlnew].
A scattering of roles towards the end of her teens saw Jennifer appear in ‘The Hot Spot’ and ‘The Rocketeer’. The latter of these films saw Jennifer team up with her co-star, Bill Campbell, both on and off screen. The relationship was to last for five years.
In 1990 she enrolled at Yale and studied English for two years, before switching to Stanford University in California, where she studied drama and classical theatre.
While she continued to work, her career never really met with universal critical acclaim. Having met photographer David Dugan, they had a baby boy together, called Kai.
In Darren Aronofsky's ‘Requiem For A Dream’ (200), Jennifer played one of several people dragged down by heroin addiction. Having picked up an ‘Independent Spirit’ nomination for the harrowing film, she moved on to play [urlnew=http://www.thebiographychannel.co.uk/biography_home/69:0/Ed_Harris.htm]Ed Harris' [/urlnew]mistress, in ‘Pollock’. However, her big break came with ‘A Beautiful Mind’, in which she played the wife of [urlnew=http://www.thebiographychannel.co.uk/biography_home/814:0/Russell_Crowe.htm]Russell Crowe's [/urlnew]John Nash. She picked up a Golden Globe, a BAFTA and an Oscar.
In January 2003, Jennifer wed her ‘A Beautiful Mind’ co-star Paul Bettany, and the couple had a baby boy, Stellan, in August 2003.
Connelly also starred in two films that year: Hulk and House of Sand and Fog. Hulk was something of a box office disappointment, but afforded Connelly the chance to work with noted director Ang Lee. House of Sand and Fog, based on the novel by Andre Dubus III, was reminiscent of much of her independent film work of the late 1990s.
Connelly then appeared in the 2005 horror film Dark Water, which was based on a Japanese film. The following year, Connelly appeared in two films, both of which were nominated for multiple Academy Awards.
She played a major role in an adaptation of the novel Little Children alongside [urlnew=http://www.thebiographychannel.co.uk/biography_home/2128:0/Kate_Winslet.htm]Kate Winslet[/urlnew]. Though her role as Kathy Adamson was very important in the novel, the director gave her character less screen time, instead focusing on the characters played by Winslet and Patrick Wilson. She also played a journalist in Blood Diamond opposite [urlnew=http://www.thebiographychannel.co.uk/biography_home/1581:0/Leonardo_DiCaprio.htm]Leonardo DiCaprio[/urlnew].
