[h3]The daughter of film stars Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, Jamie Lee Curtis launched her film career as a "scream queen". [/h3]

After a nondescript supporting role on the TV series, 'Operation Petticoat', Curtis rose to cult stardom playing the straight-laced teenage baby sitter, imperilled by an unknown slasher, in 'Halloween'.

Following her appearance in the film's sequel and in other horror films such as 'The Fog', and 'Prom Night', she seemed in danger of being limited to blood-splattered horror films.

However Curtis avoided typecasting with a part as a prostitute, (and several well-publicized nude scenes), in the comedy 'Trading Places', making the transition from teen-type to adult smoothly.

Curtis had a string of unsuccessful films after 'Trading Places' but she was usually worth watching, even when the films weren't. In 'A Fish Called Wanda' and 'My Girl', she proved she was an actress of range and stature, and not just another "movie star's kid".

Taking a potentially humiliating role, as the unknowing wife of a secret agent, in the big-budget [urlnew=http://www.thebiographychannel.co.uk/biography_home/828:0/Arnold_Schwarzenegger.htm]Arnold Schwarzenegger[/urlnew] adventure 'True Lies', Curtis delivered a sparkling performance, and, in 1997, she was reunited with the cast of 'A Fish Called Wanda' for 'Fierce Creatures'. Unfortunately, the film was largely disappointing.

However, the following year, Curtis returned to her roots in 'Halloween: H2O'. The slasher film was much criticised, but popular with audiences.

In 1999, Curtis again ventured into the big-budget realm with the action thriller 'Virus', and had a supporting role in 'Daddy and Them', [urlnew=http://www.thebiographychannel.co.uk/biography_home/97:0/Billy_Bob_Thornton.htm]Billy Bob Thornton's [/urlnew]writing/directorial effort.

In 2006, Curtis revealed in an interview that she has closed the book on her acting career to focus on family. However, she has reportedly returned to acting after she was cast in [urlnew=http://www.thebiographychannel.co.uk/biography_home/694:0/Walt_Disney.htm]Disney's[/urlnew] upcoming live-action-animated film, South of the Border.

Married to actor Christopher Guest since 1984, Curtis became a Baroness, Lady Haden-Guest in 1996, when her husband inherited the Barony.
