Welcome to Poway Bernardo Mortuary, where a real-life death experience awaits you. In our reality series chronicling the intense, peculiar and often hilarious days and nights at a busy California funeral home, we meet three beautiful sisters, their hot-blooded father, exacting boss and quirky funeral director.
Episode One: Blood Is Thicker Than Water
The first episode finds head embalmer Shonna with only 30 minutes to get a body into its casket and to the funeral. After one last embalming, the three sisters head for a girls' night out.
Episode Two: Smoke And Mirrors
The staff of Poway Bernardo Mortuary in Southern California pick the wrong day to try to quit smoking when head embalmer Shonna gets one of the most challenging reconstruction cases of her career - a woman who died in a horrific car crash. With the family desperate to view their mother one last time, Shonna and the gang are under enormous pressure to make the shattered body presentable, and the stress fuels their desire to start puffing again.
Episode Three: Where’s Chuck
Body remover and ex-boxing champ Chuck Wissmiller drives everybody at the mortuary nuts. First, he causes chaos when he's late picking up two bodies at the medical examiner's office. Then, he fouls up when he fails to realise that his daughter Shonna is waiting for him to bring the van back so they can send a body to the airport. Finally, he delivers an elderly woman's body to the mortuary two hours late, making Rick livid. After a long day, he heads home where his beloved cat awaits him, too.
Episode Four: Love And Death
Poway Bernardo Mortuary boss Rick rules with a firm hand and a gruff voice. But it doesn't help that he and fiancée Melissa, the oldest Wissmiller sister, don't see eye to eye. Meanwhile, embalmer Shonna is forced to deal with one client while she hurries to prepare a loved one in time for the evening's family viewing. Then, a kinder, gentler Rick helps a volunteer group bury an abandoned baby. Rick recently lost his son after years of illness, and now "love" is "all that matters."
Episode Five: Forget Me Not
Shonna prefers to stay in the back room preparing the dead instead of doing funeral arrangements with the living because she gets too emotionally involved. But today, she's the only one available to help a grief-stricken woman make the arrangements for her beloved uncle. Meanwhile, Chuck is having problems with his short-term memory and repeatedly loses the money he needs to buy a new car.

Episode Six: Heavy “Bag”gage
Boxing pro Chuck recruits John to help hang a heavy bag to relieve stress at the mortuary. As Chuck sees it, the Poway team can take their hits on the bag instead of each other. Chuck's boxing therapy begins with his daughters, but soon it's John, the apprentice embalmer and funeral assistant who needs it most.
Episode Seven: Girls Night Out
Sisters Shonna, Melissa and Emily plan a rare night out on the town together, but childcare emergencies, jealous husbands and last-minute body rushes and death calls at the mortuary get in the way.
Episode Eight: Please Date Our Dad
The girls secretly sign up Chuck for an Internet dating service. Meanwhile, David arranges the funeral for a reclusive woman who died without family or friends, making him realise how lucky he is to have found his own wife.
Episode Nine: Mum's The Word
The phones are ringing off the hook at Poway Bernardo Mortuary and the girls' mom, Sue, comes to lend a hand. But after a recent fight, Sue's not talking to her ex-husband and the girls' dad, Chuck. Will Chuck be on his best behaviour, or will sparks fly?
Episode Ten: Behind Closed Doors
Tensions rise in the mortuary as Rick gives his fiancée, Melissa, an ultimatum - move in with him and commit fully to their relationship, or it's over.
Episode Eleven: A Rich Life
Office Manager and youngest Wissmiller sister Emily has the mortuary's most overlooked, and often most stressful, job. Today is particularly bad because Rick takes out his recent break-up with Melissa on Emily, and the emotional demands of grieving families stretch her to the max.
Episode Twelve: Looking For Love, Again
Finding a date for Chuck gets harder and harder as the Weissmiller sisters continue their Internet matchmaking efforts for their dad. While Emily lines up a potential date, Shonna does some dating research herself when she discovers a distinctive article of clothing during an embalming.
Episode Thirteen: A V.I.P In The House
Poway Bernardo Mortuary faces one of its biggest challenges when making funeral arrangements for a Cold War naval legend - Commander Lloyd M. Bucher, former captain of the USS Pueblo.

Episode Fourteen: Birthday Blues
It's Emily's birthday, and she hasn't had a party since she was 16, so today she gets two! First, a lunch at the mortuary, where Melissa's taken charge of the menu. But Rick has plans too - he's going to bring a new woman to Emily's party after work to make Melissa jealous.
Episode Fifteen: Movin’ On
After a whirlwind romantic weekend, Rick brings his new girlfriend to Poway Bernardo Mortuary. Shonna and Emily are dying to meet her, but they hope that she'll arrive before their sister, and Rick's ex, Melissa gets to work.
Episode Sixteen: House Of Pain
In the season finale, an emotionally worn Rick hires a "Life Affirmation" expert to give the staff a seminar on how to improve their interaction with grieving families and each other. Reluctantly, the gang is forced to get to know each other more deeply than ever, and even face their own mortality. Will things ever be the same again?
