James Blunt filmography

It’s probably no exaggeration to say that James Blunt has been the biggest and most unexpected surprise success of the last five years in music.

After completing his education at the exclusive Harrow School, James continued the family military tradition and attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. As part of the Household Cavalry, he rose to the rank of Captain and saw service as part of the NATO peacekeeping force in Kosovo. He was even called upon to guard the Queen and stood guard at the Queen Mother’s funeral.

However, by 2003 he found himself living at the home of Carrie Fisher in Los Angeles. James had been introduced to Carrie by his then girlfriend’s family. Carrie offered up a room in her house when she heard James was heading to the U.S to work on his music.

In an interview with The Independent on Sunday newspaper, Carrie Fisher said

"He'd never been to therapy and I've had enough for both of us, so we started talking quite deeply about his time in the army and the kind of impact that had had. And so on. So I was kind of his shrink/landlady."

Carrie’s bathroom was even credited on James' debut album thanks to its old piano that was used to write the track ‘Goodbye, My Lover’. Whilst enjoying the L.A nightlife, James also found time to team up with former 4 Non Blondes singer, Linda Perry who signed him to her US label.

2004 saw James hit the road as support act on an Elton John tour and release his debut single ‘High’. Despite the song receiving a significant boost thanks to an Italian Vodafone commercial, it wasn’t until the release of this third single that the world took notice of the young singer/songwriter.

‘You’re Beautiful’ made it to the top of the UK singles charts, closely followed by his debut album ‘Back To Bedlam’. A Europe-wide hit, ‘You’re Beautiful’ also crossed the Atlantic and hit the US top spot. With ‘Back To Bedlam’ sailing past the 5 million sales mark in 2005, James was named ‘Best New Artist’ at the Q Music Awards.

With such impressive successes early on in his career, all eyes are now on James’ next album to see if he can continue to ride this current wave of popularity.

Whilst staying at Carrie Fisher’s house in L.A, Carrie placed a cardboard figure of her as Princess Leia outside his room to protect him.

According to The Sun newspaper, the song ‘You're Beautiful’ has overtaken Robbie Williams' 'Angels' as the current wedding favourite in the UK.

The song ‘Goodbye My Lover’ was written and recorded in Carrie Fisher’s bathroom.
