[h3]Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie say goodbye to their jet-setting lifestyle in Los Angeles, and move in with the Ledings, a family in Altus, Arkansas; cultures clash as the glamorous girls try to adjust to rural realities, and the Ledings try to adjust to the girls. [/h3]

Paris Hilton, heiress to the Hilton Hotel chain, and her best friend Nicole Richie, daughter of composer Lionel Richie, prepare to move from Los Angeles (where they have every luxury money can buy) to a rural community where they’ll have to live very simply.

The girls go on a last shopping spree, spending thousands on trinkets they don’t particularly need, like hats and heels. That night Paris’ parents host a goodbye party for the girls, who arrive in a helicopter.

The girls predict they’ll miss their cell phones most of all, but insist that they’ll prove the pessimists wrong by succeeding at living the simple life. Paris’ parents toast the adventure, wishing the girls well.

In heels and miniskirts, the girls turn over their cell phones and cash, and say goodbye to Los Angeles without knowing exactly where they’re going. They board a private plane, and four hours later land in the Ozarks. There, instead of the limo they’re accustomed to, a pick-up awaits them. It contains a welcome note from their hosts, the Leding family, and directions to the Leding farm.

Since Nicole doesn’t know how to drive, Paris takes the wheel of the old, balky pick-up. The Ledings wait at home for the girls to arrive, speculating on what Paris and Nicole will be like. Soon the girls arrive, and Paris and Nicole meet Albert and Janet, the parents; Cayne and Braxton, the sons (son Justin isn’t home); and grandparents Richard and Curly.

The Ledings are surprised at the skimpy clothes the girls wear, and the quantity of luggage they’ve brought. The girls are shocked that the room they’ll be living in has no covering on the windows, and a well in the middle of the floor.
