Diary Of A Mother On The Edge filmography

Henrietta Spink is the mother of two severely disabled children Henry and Freddy. She recorded her extraordinary life in an audio diary that preserved her sanity. Henrietta’s dream is that one day she will find a cure for Henry and a better life for Freddy.

Her journey will take the family across the world in search of a miracle and a drastic decision will change their lives forever.

Henrietta’s sons were both born with severe disabilities. Henry (19) has global developmental delay, is quadriplegic and epileptic, while Freddie (15) is autistic with a range of physical disabilities.

In 2005, after their court battle to get Wandsworth Council to increase the level of assistance failed, they sold their London home. Rather than retreat defeated to the Cornish holiday home where they now live, the Spinks took a bold step.

After paying their debts, Henrietta and her husband bought a 50ft boat: they wanted to prove it was possible to sail around the world with disabled children. Shortly before Christmas 2005, they had reached Italy when Henrietta received a call from Professor Jim Fallon, a neuroscientist at the University of California at Irvine, who had developed a new therapy called Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS), which could potentially alleviate some of both boys' disabilities.

The therapy uses electromagnetism to ‘re-polarise’ cells in the brain, and since undergoing treatment, they boys have in fact shown a marked improvement on brain scans and in their behaviour.

The film tells the moving story of Henrietta's journey through rage, hopelessness and moments of sheer joy in seeking help for her two sons.
