James Poland was a stay-at home dad raising three children (two sons and a severely disabled daughter) with his wife, Andrea Schneider, a staff member of the Royal Ontario Museum.
7th June 2001 started as a typical day: Schneider getting ready for work and Poland getting the three kids ready for school. But an argument in the family's garage turned fatal when Schneider revealed she was having an affair and wanted out of the marriage. In the next seconds Poland reached out and grabbed an axe, swung it twice, smashing her skull.
