Shania Twain filmography
Canadian country music sensation Shania Twain was born Eileen Edwards, growing up in the mining town of Timmins.
Her father abandoned her as a child, and her mother and new stepfather took great pains to support her early career. She learned guitar at an early age, but, before pursuing music, she worked with her stepfather in forest crews, planting trees.

Tragically, her parents were both killed in an accident when she was 22. The singer became the legal guardian of her two half brothers and sister, the responsibility of which led to her temporary abandonment of a musical career.

Taking a job at the Canadian Deerhurst resort in North Ontario, she performed the lead in an array of musical productions. A real crowd-pleaser, she specialised in country music.

Moving to Nashville five years later, she cut a demo in 1991, with songwriter Norro Wilson and producer Buddy Cannon.

Shania herself penned the song ‘God Aint Gonna Get You For That’ for the demo. However, the record company were unimpressed, and provided her with Nashville song-mill material to record.

Hearing potential in her, producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange called her, offering to deliver her from her lacklustre current material. They met in Nashville in 1993, fell in love, and were married in December.

Re-working her disused material with Lange’s arena-rock sound, and re-working her image as a sex-symbol, her 1995 album, 'The Woman In Me', perfected the pop-country sound, selling over 11 million copies, and winning a Grammy Award.

'Come on Over' was released in 1997, followed by a two-year world tour. By 1999, it had sold over 36 million copies. She was by now far and away the biggest country star in the world, and one of the world’s most popular female performers.

Giving birth to her first child, Eja, in 2001, she came back on the scene with 'Up!' in late 2002.
