Alanis Morissette filmography

Alanis came to music early, and was playing the piano and song writing by the age of 9. At 10, she took part in ‘You Can’t Do That on Television’, a children’s variety show.
In 1987, after meeting Stephan Klovan, he helped her land a series of gigs and performances.

Alanis was signed to MCA/Canada at the age of 14 and, in 1991, she released her debut album. It was a success, and went platinum.

Her second album was less successful and, after attempting to rejuvenate her career in Toronto, Alanis moved to LA. There she met songwriter-producer Glen Ballard in 1994, and very soon she was signed to Madonna’s Maverick and she began to work on her next album ‘Jagged Little Pill’.

The album was a massive success, selling more than 16 million copies. It won Grammys for Album of the Year, Best Female Vocal Performance for ‘You Oughta Know’ and Best Rock Album. The album also set the record for the best-selling US debut by a female solo artist.

Alanis took a break after the furore of the album died down a little. She tried new things and appeared in the film ‘Dogma’ and she also went to India for a length of time, to find calm in her life.

Her next album, ‘Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie’, showed a different side to Alanis. Including singles such as ‘Thank u’ and ‘Unsent’, Alanis showed that she had found some of the inner peace she was looking for, and the album was much softer, and far less angry, than her first.

The album met with success and critical acclaim but perhaps, somewhat inevitably, given the huge success of her first, it was not as much of a hit.

Alanis' next album 'Under Rug Swept', which featured the hit 'Hands Clean', found the singer-songwriter taking the production reins and delivering arguably her most accomplished album.

The singer's most recent release, 'So-Called Chaos', has helped ensure a loyal fan base, despite failing to set the charts alight.

Alanis has also continued to dip into acting. She appeared in 'The Vagina Monologues', as well as taking a guest star role in 'Sex and the City'.
