David Gray filmography

David Gray was born in Manchester in 1970 and, when he was nine years old, he moved to Wales with his family. He attended the University of Liverpool and began playing in punk bands while at college. There he began to experiment with a more poetic form of writing and, after leaving Liverpool, he moved to London, where he could be closer to the music business. He was soon signed to Hut records in the UK, and Carolina in the U.S. His first release followed shortly afterwards, in 1992, called 'Birds without Wings'.

His debut album, ‘A Century Ends’, was released to great acclaim in 1993. Following a tour of Europe, David returned to record his second album, ‘Flesh’, which was released in 1994. Continuing to work with Hut in Europe under the Virgin umbrella, lack of support from the label eventually led to him being dropped. He was, however, quickly snapped up by EMI records, and his popularity increased, particularly in Ireland.

Gray's third album ‘Sell, Sell, Sell’, was released by EMI in 1996, but live performances continued to be Gray's strong point, enabling him to build up a great reputation and causing him to sell out venues whenever he toured

Gray's fourth and most recent album, ‘White Ladder’ was recorded in a London flat and went straight into the Irish Top 30. In fact, 5 tracks from the album provided the backbone for the soundtrack of Kathy Burke's 'This Year's Love'.

David returned for a full Irish tour in December 1999, ending with an astounding gig at the Point Depot on December 22nd. ‘White Ladder’ had already reached 90,000 sales and reached no 1 In the Irish album charts by January 2000.
