Wendy Richard

Richard has had three spouses but divorced all of them. She was married to Leonard Blach from 1972 to 1974, to Will Thorpe from 1980 to 1984 and to Paul Glorney from 1990 to 1994. Her current partner is John Burns, who is also her personal assistant.

In November 1999, Richard disturbed burglars in her Marylebone, London home when she returned from filming one evening. They managed to get away with more than £5,000 of jewellery and cash, including some rings she had worn when playing Miss Brahms in ‘Are You Being Served?’ (1972).

In recognition of her services to television drama, Richard was awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in 2000 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth on the Millennium Honours List. Her fan base is extensive and everyone who has known her, as a friend or as a television character, is sending her best wishes for winning her battle with cancer. Here’s hoping her withdrawal for a while from work will help her on her way to recovering her health. Her indomitable spirit will certainly go a long way to achieving that aim. She has claimed that she is definitely not retiring, so we can look forward to more of Richard’s acting magic in the future.
