Allen withdraws from book panel
Singer Lily Allen has withdrawn "by mutual consent" from the judging panel of this year's Orange Prize for Fiction, blaming ill health.
"It is with deep regret that Lily Allen has withdrawn from the judging panel," Allen's manager told the
Daily Mail. "Lily had read extensively for the first stage of the judging process and was looking forward to the shortlist meeting but recently found that she was unable to commit 100% to the role due to ill-health."
Allen did not attend a judges' meeting last month to discuss the 20-book longlist, according to the newspaper. Instead she participated by telephone. "Lily hopes that her withdrawal will not detract from the huge importance of the Orange prize and sends her sincere apologies to her fellow judges and to the individual authors," her manager added.
Allen has experienced a turbulent year; following a miscarriage in January she is understood to have broken up with her partner, Ed Simons of the Chemical Brothers.
Trisha battling cancer
Talk show presenter Trisha Goddard is being treated for breast cancer.
Her husband, Peter Gianfancesco, confirmed that a lump was discovered during a routine mammogram three weeks ago, requiring her to be absent from her Five TV show 'Trisha' for two weeks.
"She may possibly need, or choose to have, chemotherapy," he said.
The Five presenter's business partner, Malcolm Allsop, told the BBC that she would "come through this as she has with other setbacks".

Stylish Moss back on top
Supermodel Kate Moss regained first place in the British edition of Glamour magazine's annual best-dressed woman list, as Kylie Minogue tumbled from the top.
Moss, 34, reigned for three straight years before being overtaken by Minogue in 2007.
However the Australian singer, 39, slumped to 19th place this year in the poll of readers' opinions - a tumble the magazine blamed on a black lace catsuit she wore on television during Britain's hit talent show, The X Factor.
Actress Sienna Miller came second, while US counterparts Scarlett Johansson, Rachel Bilson and Jennifer Aniston completed the top five.
"Kate's back with a vengeance. Her maverick approach to fashion is an inspiration," said Glamour editor Jo Elvin.
