Driving badly seems to be a trend amount the young party animals of America and Lohan is no stranger for being on the wrong side of the law behind a steering wheel after having three separate accidents in 2005. Various hospital visits throughout 2006- including a broken wrist and dehydration led Lohan to check herself into rehab in January this year. The endless A-list parties resulted in Lohan attending regular Alcoholics Anonymous meetings too. In May this year, she pranged her Mercedes convertible and was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. After spending 45 days in rehab, Lohan was again arrested in July for possessing cocaine in addition to further driving offences.

5. Britney Spears

Exploits: Where oh where did it all go wrong for Spears, who was Queen of the charts at the start of the millennium? Spears’ gradual downfall into the weird and erratic most likely began when her relationship with childhood sweetheart and fellow pop prince, Justin Timberlake, ended in 2002. In 2004 Spears married old friend Jason Alexander in a tongue-in-cheek joke ceremony in Vegas only to have the marriage annulled 55 hours later. Later the same year, she met Kevin Federline who reportedly left his girlfriend when she was eight months pregnant with his second baby (charming). The pair soon married and by 2006, Spears had given birth to two sons. Two months later she filed for divorce from K-Fed (as he’s become known) and the two of them continue to battle out custody of the children. Spear’s case has not been helped by her more recent outbursts of public attention beginning with her arriving at a hairdressers’ in California seven months ago and shaving her head in front of concerned customers. After jumping back on the rehab band wagon a few days later, Spears has continued to worry fans with her unpredictable behaviour- including a hit-and-run incident without a driving licence. Spears has been charged with the offence and could now face up to six months in prison if she’s convicted - not a great reference for her divorce papers.

6. Amy Winehouse

Exploits: When Amy first burst onto the music scene in 2003 with her debut album Frank, it seemed her unique take on jazz and R&B would secure her status imminently in the music world. An Ivor Novello Award win was an appropriately happy nod at the end of 2004. Taking a couple of years off to record a second album, Winehouse returned in 2006 with the acclaimed Back to Black album, earning her a second Ivor Novello and a Brit award. They say fame and success comes at a price though and with Winehouse, she has paid both physically and mentally. Her reappearance back in the public eye initially raised eyebrows due to her dramatic weight loss - sparking whispers of an eating disorder. In 2007 Winehouse married her boyfriend Blake Fielder-Civil but the honeymoon was soon over when tales of the couple’s drug addictions became public. A spell in the usual rehabilitation clinics didn’t last, with Winehouse always checking out early. She was admitted to a London hospital in August after apparently slipping into a drug-induced coma brought on by a night of drug taking and alcohol binging. Later that month, she was seen with her husband stumbling out of the Sanderson Hotel in blood-stained clothing and cuts and bruises to both. Until both families can join forces to support Winehouse a united front, it could be a while before the Amy of yesterday-year returns to form.

Exploits: Campbell is synonymous with temper tantrums. The world-famous model makes more front covers with exploits of her bad moods than her pretty face these days. Campbell has feuded with half of the model population, most famous of which was Tyra Banks. Aside from her competitive nature with her fellow waifs, Campbell has been in trouble with police on more than one occasion for her random physical outbursts - usually involving people in her employment. In 1998 she assaulted her assistant with a telephone and was charged with the incident two years later, agreeing to attend anger management classes. Clearly taking the position of Campbell’s assistant requires a steady disposition as in 2005, she was once again accused of physically assaulting her then employee, Amanda Black. Black sued Campbell for apparently abusing her verbally and for emotional attacks spanning three continents. Campbell was finally brought to justice earlier this year when she was sentenced to five days of community service in Manhattan for hitting her housekeeper with a mobile phone (supposedly inflicting a wound which required four stitches). In true model style, Campbell reported for duty every day on the streets of America looking every inch the fashion icon.
