Despite losing out on the prize money to winner Kate Lawler, she was nicknamed ‘The Pig’ by the tabloids after her succession of comedy moments in the house such as thinking ‘East Angula’ (Anglia) was abroad and stripping off for a drinking game whilst worrying about a supposed verruca on her foot! Grammatical ignorance is one thing but racism is another and the media furor caused an immediate backlash against Goody. After being evicted from the programme Goody (receiving 82% of the total votes), Goody’s reputation was in tatters. Plans for a paperback issue of her autobiography were withdrawn from her publisher after the racist row and sales of her perfume slumped.
