Married in St Pauls Cathedral on 29th July 1981, the invited congregation of 3,500 didn’t have to worry about taking time off work, since a national holiday was created to honour the event instead. Arriving at Church in a glass coach, Diana made the three-and-a-half minute walk up the aisle with 25 ft worth of antique lace trailing behind her and an estimated global TV audience of 750 million watching her. This made it one of the most popular programmes ever broadcast. Nice.
