Hancock hits the UK
Biography has been waiting impatiently for Will Smith's summer blockbuster Hancock to arrive, and if you have any sense, you have been too.
It's the story of a superhero who has the super down pat, but hasn't quite managed to get his head around the 'hero' part. Will Smith lovers and online flick fans have been eagerly tracking the development of Hancock for months, and following the onset of the major billboard campaign earlier this week, the film had its UK premiere on Wednesday 18 June.
It was hardly a balmy evening, what with the English summer being missing in action, but that certainly didn't deter the hundreds of screaming fans who inundated the Leicester Square Odeon red carpet, determined for an eyeful for A-list starrage, including Will Smith, Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron. Biography was on the red carpet too, albeit with all the other mere mortals at the back who were on the guest list for the screening. And in case there is any contention in the matter, we confirm that Will Smith is indeed very lovely and dashingly handsome in person.
The film itself is harder to categorise. It took three presentations to the Motion Picture Association of America to avoid an undesirable R rating (apparently having a superhero flying under the influence of alcohol sets a very bad example to the younger generation), and certainly delivers more depth than suggested by the hysterical trailers and teasers. To know just how good Hancock is, the rest of you will have to wait until the film's official nationwide release on July 2. But we'll give you a head's up: this film is worth waiting for.
