For those new to the world of bumbling CONTROL secret agent 86, Maxwell Smart, and his savvy sidekick Agent 99, this film is as good an entry point as any. The addition of Dwayne Johnson as Agent 23, star of the field but now relegated to the trials of office politics and photocopying while 86 and 99 attempt to thwart the nefarious plans of KAOS, is a very fun touch. The opening sequence sets up both the slapstick character of the film and gives a rousing introduction to the super Trevor Rabin (Armageddon, Con Air, National Treasure) soundtrack. The music rang similarly to Ramin Djawadi's brilliant Iron Man score, lifting the action, trying its best to fill out the emotional sections and making excellent use of the original theme tune.
