Dolly Parton writing musical based on her life

Parton is writing a musical based on her life.

Dolly Parton has revealed that she is writing a musical based on her own life, which she hopes will be staged on Broadway.

The ‘Nine to Five’ singer previously adapted her 1980 film ‘Nine to Five’ into a Broadway musical in 2006 but it closed after 17 weeks due to poor ticket sales but this has not fazed her.

She told WENN: “I'm writing my life story as a musical for Broadway. I probably won't be in it but I'll find a way to introduce it somehow, maybe the older me."

Parton grew up in a one-bedroom cabin in Tennessee with 11 siblings and turned to singing as she wanted attention.

She released her debut album ‘Hello I’m Dolly’ in 1967 at the age of 21 and branched into pop with her 1977 single ‘Here You Come Again’.

Parton will next be seen in the gospel musical ‘Joyful Noises’ alongside Queen Latifah. It is set for release on 13 January.
