Elvis has been nominated for a posthumous Grammy

Elvis Presley has been nominated for a posthumous Grammy award in the Best Historical Album category.

The King of rock n roll has been nominated for his five-CD box-set called 'Young Man with the Big Beat: The Complete '56 Elvis Presley Masters', which features early recordings of the star.

Early versions of hit songs 'Blue Suede Shoes' and 'Lawdy Ms Clawdy' plus outtakes, interviews and live tracks all feature on the album.

During his career, Elvis earned 14 Grammy nominations and three wins until his death in 1977 from cardiac arrest.

Elvis came to fame in the 1950s and 1960s for his country and blues laced with gospel singles, known for swinging his hips in a provocative manner, which made him a teen idol.

On 27 October 2011, he was named as the second top-earning celebrity behind Michael Jackson by Forbes, as his estate made $55 million (£34.3 million) over the previous 12 months.

Sir Paul McCartney and Chris Strachwitz have also been nominated in the Historical Album category.
