Glastonbury founder to win Lifetime Achievement Award

The founder of Glastonbury Festival Michael Eavis

Dairy farmer and founder of the Glastonbury Music Festival Michael Eavis will be receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award.

He will be honoured at the European Festival Awards, which are being held in the Netherlands on 11 January.

The prize is given to an individual whose energy and vision has propelled the music industry forward in a creative and positive way.

Mr Eavis said: "After 41 years, to win something of this magnitude is something to be incredibly proud of. To still be doing this after that amount of time is no mean feat."

He launched the festival, which is held on his own land in Somerset, in 1970 inspired by the Isle of Wight Festival.

It made its first profit 11 years ago and now the proceeds go to charity.

In the festival's 40th year, Eavis joined Stevie Wonder, who was the headline act, on stage to sing a chorus of 'Happy Birthday'.
