Lindsay Lohan denies gold necklace theft

American actress Lindsay Lohan is embroiled in an embarrassing situation as she faces accusations that she stole an expensive necklace from a Los Angeles jewellery store.
The 24-year-old, who has been in and out of rehab for substance abuse, was this week charged with felony grand theft of a $2,500 (£1,556) necklace, but she pleaded not guilty.
A police report stated that the actress, who starred in The Parent Trap and Herbie: Fully Loaded, was in the Kamofie & Company jewellers in the Venice area on January 18th when an earlier attempt is said to have taken place.
Quoting the police report, celebrity website TMZ stated: "Ms Lohan gathered her things and started to leave the jewellery store without making a purchase. Ms Lohan's hair was flipped to one side covering the diamond earring."
However, she was stopped when a clerk reminded her that she had not paid for the item and she admitted the mistake.
Four days later she took the gold necklace from the same store, according to the charges, but Lohan denied the accusations and has since taken to Twitter to reaffirm her innocence.
