Military Wives Choir surprised by Brit nomination

The Military Wives Choir are up for a Brit

Members of the Military Wives Choir are surprised by their Best Single Brit nomination, especially as they are competing against "real singers like Adele'.

Their single 'Wherever You Will Go' achieved the much-coveted Christmas number one and has so far raised over £500,000 for the Royal British Legion and Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association Forces Help.

The choir was formed as part of a BBC 2 show with help from choirmaster Gareth Malone and the song contains lines from love letters sent by the wives to their serving husbands.

Now, the single has been nominated for the Best Single Brit against the likes of Adele, Jessie J, Ed Sheeran and One Direction.

Caro Clark, whose husband is a petty officer in the Royal Navy, told the Daily Mail: "The choir - thanks to Gareth - gave us not only a public voice, but also a public face.

"We're so used to thinking that it's the men who are the stars of our families. They risk their lives and they deserve the military parades and medals, but we have to get on with our day-to-day lives without complaint and that is exactly what we should do."

The Brit awards take place on Tuesday 21 February.
