New papers relating to Jackie Kennedy revealed

Papers relating to Jackie Kennedy have been made public.

New papers relating to Jackie Kennedy, the First Lady to US president John F Kennedy, were released earlier this week.

Many of the documents are staff files, with some containing the handwritten notes of Kennedy, and show that she was a detail-orientated manager.

The documents were donated to the John F Kennedy presidential library by Caroline and John F Kennedy JR but have only now been made public.

When Kennedy moved into the White House with her husband in 1961 at the age of 31, she started the arduous task of redecorating.

The documents show that Kennedy did not hire an interior designer but personally chose the fabrics and spent hours flicking through samples before selecting gold curtains.

A script for the first televised tour of the White House in 1962 is included in the papers and contains grammatical corrections made by the First Lady.

Library director John Putnam said: "These new documents demonstrate her work as First Lady, her legendary attention to detail, and the incredible range of her understanding of art, history, and public diplomacy."

Jackie married John F Kennedy in 1953 and won the hearts of the US nation due to her dignity in the days following his assassination in 1963.
