Katie Holmes to miss US screens in The Kennedys

Katie Holmes

Former Dawson's Creek actress Katie Holmes will not be appearing on screen as Jackie Kennedy after A&E Television Networks decided to cancel plans to broadcast The Kennedys on the US History Channel.

Holmes starred as the first lady in the eight-part series, which featured Greg Kinnear as JFK, but fans will not be seeing her carry out the portrayal after the programme reportedly came under pressure from the surviving Kennedys.

It has been reported that Maria Shriver and Caroline Kennedy lobbied hard to have the series dropped, with their efforts increasing in recent months.

However, a representative for the network told the Hollywood Reporter: "Upon completion of the production of The Kennedys, History has decided not to air the eight-part miniseries on the network.

"While the film is produced and acted with the highest quality, after viewing the final product in its totality, we have concluded this dramatic interpretation is not a fit for the History brand."

Nonetheless, the programme is expected to be aired outside the US.
