Beyonce gives birth to baby girl

Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z welcomed a baby daughter in New York on 7 January.

The 30-year-old gave birth via a scheduled caesarean section at the Lenox Hill Hospital. It has been revealed that they have named their new arrival Blue Ivy Carter.

Beyonce's close friend Gwyneth Paltrow tweeted her congratulations, writing: "Welcome to the world Blue! We love you already."

Other celebrities, including Russell Brand and Rihanna have also posted good wishes to the couple, who married in 2008, on the micro-blogging site.

Beyonce and Jay-Z are not the first celebrity parents to call their child Blue, as U2 guitarist The Edge has a 22-year-old daughter called Blue, and actress Alicia Silverstone named her seven-month-old son Bear Blu.

E! Online reported that rapper Jay-Z, real name Shawn Carter, was by his wife's side when she gave birth.

During her pregnancy, Beyonce continued to raise the fashion stakes, sticking to her high heels and short dresses throughout. She was also named the most stylish pregnant celebrity in a poll commissioned by Josoblu.
