Etta James dies aged 73

Etta James has died aged 73.

American blues and jazz singer Etta James died on 20 January at the age of 73 of complications from leukaemia.

The 'At Last' singer is survived by her husband of 42 years Artis Mills and two sons Donto and Sametto Jones, as well as four grandchildren.

Her son Donto opened up about his mother's death stating: "It's been quite a day, but I'm very grateful.

"She basically passed in my arms, and I was able to share everything I needed to say to her, from praying to listing her accomplishments as a mother."

James led a turbulent life, such as combating a heroin addiction and time spent in rehab centres, and enjoyed a music career that started in the 1950s.

Since her death, several celebrities have paid tribute to the singer, known for her husky voice.

Beyonce Knowles, Mariah Carey, Pink and Will i.am have all paid their respects to James.
