Ozzy Osbourne asks fans to send positive vibes to Tony Iommi

Tony Iommi has been diagnosed with cancer.

Ozzy Osbourne and his Black Sabbath bandmates have asked fans to send "positive vibes" to their guitarist Tony Iommi.

The 63-year-old musician, who has just reunited with his Sabbath bandmates to record a new album, will be undergoing treatment for cancer after being diagnosed with lymphoma.

A statement released on behalf of the band said: "Iommi is currently working with his doctors to establish the best treatment plan - the Iron Man of rock & roll remains upbeat and determined to make a full and successful recovery."

Black Sabbath, who have reunited after 33 years, are planning to continue with their plans for the new album and tour.

Ozzy Osbourne was replaced as the lead singer of Black Sabbath, who formed in 1969, in 1979 due to his erratic behaviour caused by drug use.

He was replaced by Ronnie James Dio who died of cancer in 2010.

The Birmingham-born Osbourne launched a solo career with 'Blizzard of Ozz' in 1980 and enjoyed his first number one in 2003 with 'Changes' – a duet with his daughter Kelly.
