Remake of 'Total Recall' different from original, star claims

Kate Beckinsale has spoken about 'Total Recall'.

English actress Kate Beckinsale has revealed that the remake of 'Total Recall' is completely different from the original.

She told USA Today that the remake will contain some elements of the 1990 movie, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, but it will create its own identity.

Beckinsale, who has also starred in 'Pearl Harbour', 'Underworld' and 'Van Helsing', revealed that she enjoyed playing a femme fatale in the film.

She plays Lori, the wife of main character Quaid, played by Colin Farrell in the remake.

The 39-year-old told the publication: "I'm a villain, which is new. That was really great. There's a nicely slightly psychotic vibe to her, which is really fun.

"[My husband and director] Len [Wiseman] was writing my part with me in mind, which I was kind of insulted about."

'Total Recall' is based on a story by Philip K Dick about a construction worker sent on a secret mission to Mars to find out his true  identity.

The remake will be released in the US on 3 August and on 22 August in the UK.
