Adele continues chart domination

Adele

English singer-songwriter Adele, whose performance at the 2011 Brit Awards catapulted her song Someone Like You straight to number one in the UK, has continued her dominance of the charts.

The Grammy Award-winning musician's song remained on top of the charts for a second consecutive week, while her album 21 maintained its position as the best-selling album for a fifth week.

Last week she became the first living artist to have two top five hits in both the Official Singles Chart and the Official Albums Chart at the same time, ending the Beatles' reign, which had lasted since 1964.

Commenting on the achievement, Martin Talbot, managing director of the Official Charts Company, said: "It is a fantastic week for both Adele and the Brits. For Adele to match a record of the Beatles is an extraordinary, historic achievement."

The first recipient of the Brit Awards Critics' Choice accolade, Adele won two Grammy Awards in 2009, walking away with Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
