Black Swan dance double 'not given enough credit'

Natalie Portman

The professional ballerina who worked as Natalie Portman's body double in Black Swan has spoken out against the film's creators, claiming she was not given enough credit.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Sarah Lane alleged that only five per cent of the film's full body shots feature Portman.

"They wanted to create this idea in people's minds that Natalie was some kind of prodigy or so gifted in dance and really worked so hard to make herself a ballerina in a year and a half for the movie, basically because of the Oscar," she said.

Lane added that it is demeaning to the profession to suggest that it is possible to become a professional-standard ballerina in just a year and a half.

However, the claims have been shot down by director Darren Aronofsky, who said Portman "sweated long and hard" to deliver her performance in the film.

"I don't want anyone to think that's not her they are watching. It is," he added.
