Colin Firth 'could receive Knighthood'

Colin Firth

He has already won dozens of awards for his role in the recent hit movie The King's Speech and now actor Colin Firth could be honoured again - but this time by the Queen.

The actor has been nominated for the Queen's birthday honours list and may receive a knighthood, the Daily Mail reports.

A source told the newspaper: "Colin has been a great ambassador for Britain throughout his career and his sensitive portrayal of King George VI has won him much admiration among the royal family – and, of course, the film's many fans."

Her Majesty reportedly enjoyed a private screening of the film earlier this year.

The King's Speech scooped a host of awards at last week's Academy Awards, including best picture, best directing and best original screenplay.

Firth's co-star Helena Bonham Carter was nominated in the best supporting actress category, but was beaten by Melissa Leo, who starred in The Fighter.
