New 'Scarface' movie in the works?

Al Pacino starred in the 1983 version.

Universal Pictures has revealed that a new 'Scarface' film may be in the works but it is not intended to be a remake or sequel.

Instead, a new version will be developed based on elements of the original, which was made in 1932, and the iconic movie starring Al Pacino which was released in 1983.

It will be produced by the last 'Scarface' producer Martin Bregman, with Marc Schmugar who is the chairman of Universal Pictures.

Both versions of 'Scarface' tell the story of an immigrant who worms his way into the the criminal underworld and becomes a major figure before toppling from power due to his weaknesses.

The 1983 edition starred Al Pacino, who is currently filming gangster drama Gotti:In the Shadow of my Father, as the main character called Tony Montana.

It was written by Brian Palmer and also featured Steven Bauer and Michelle Pfeiffer. It has since developed a cult following and become culturally iconic.
