Henry Winkler awarded a honorary OBE

Henry Winkler has been awarded an OBE.

Henry Winkler, best known for his role as the Fonz in Happy Days, has been awarded a honorary OBE by the Queen for his work with dyslexic children.

The US actor and director was presented with the award at the British Embassy in Washington by Nigel Sheinwald, the British ambassador.

Winkler said: "Receiving this honour is a very humbling experience.

"My goal when I started working with children was never to bring accolades on myself but to change how people think about those around them for whom learning is a struggle."

The actor was diagnosed with dyslexia when he was an adult and has been touring UK schools for the past two years to talk to students, teachers and policy makers about his problems and how he copes with the condition.

He has also written 17 books about a dyslexic boy called Hank Zipzer based on his own experiences as a child.

Winkler first came to fame playing the mechanic Arthur Herbert Fonzarelli, also known as the Fonz, in the 1970s sitcom Happy Days.
