Johansson visits drought-hit East Africa

Scarlett Johansson recently visited East Africa

Scarlett Johansson has ditched the glamour of Hollywood to visit the drought-stricken region of East Africa.

The star, who has been an Oxfam ambassador since 2004, visited a Kenyan refugee camp where tens of thousands of Somali families have arrived to seek solace from starvation.

Johansson has highlighted the difficulties faced by so many families who are being forced to leave their country because of the drought and political conflict.

She said: "Over half of the Somalis that have died are children; this is an entire generation lost.

"This is no longer an issue that can only garner some attention, some of the time. Extreme action must be taken by the global community now."

The actress, who has starred in such hits as 'Lost in Translation' and 'He's Just Not That Into You', was recently knocked over by Robert Downey Jr while filming 'The Avengers'.

Downey Jr was fiddling with buttons on his costume when he triggered the arm to accidentally swing backwards and hit Johansson.
