20 year old Emma shot to infamy after she first appeared on The X Factor in 2006.

Wearing a dress she made with Dad Phil, Emma sang Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On”. The judges said “no”, Simon Cowell told her she sang a bit like a baby and that she looked like she was gong to a wedding.

After her appearance Emma and the family were called “Tellytubbies”, “Flumps” and “Lardbuckets” in the national press. Writing in The Sun Kelvin McKenzie said:

“The Chawner family…are a disgrace to themselves and to the nation.”

“…if we cut off their income support, they would starve, which would be good for them and us.”

Emma even received death threats on forums like Facebook.

Undaunted Emma has since appeared in the audition stages of the X Factor three times, and on the most recent series appeared as “Sister Act” with her big sister Samantha. She has, however never got beyond these first stages.

Emma’s an asthmatic and a smoker who’s been dreaming of becoming a professional singer since she was a young girl and has won trophies in talent shows she entered whilst on holiday.

Emma lost an admirable 3st 7lbs in series one, bringing her weight down to 16st 3lbs but as with the rest of the family, serious doubts remain about her commitment to a healthy diet and exercise regime.

This series will see Emma challenged to quit smoking, spend time away from her family for the first time ever and confront the possibility she may never become a professional singer.

22 year old Sam lost an impressive 3st 13lbs in series one and looked to be the most determined of the family to lose weight.

Sam remains the organiser for the family and looks after everyone, effectively running the household, but can she find time to do something for herself?

She has decided to focus on her ambition to run her own mobile hairdressing business but she can’t drive! Could her constant fighting with Audrey and Emma or her weight related health issues also scupper her progress?

Audrey Chawner

Audrey

Audrey is undoubtedly Lorraine’s biggest Chawner challenge.  more...

Audrey is undoubtedly Lorraine’s biggest Chawner challenge. Despite managing to lose over 2 stone in the first series, Audrey is as reluctant as ever to leave her comfort zone – stuck to the sofa, watching TV and being waited on hand and foot by her despairing family.

58 year old Audrey still faces serious health issues due to her slovenly lifestyle; she has the lung capacity of an 87 year old and still struggles to walk even short distances. Can Lorraine coerce Audrey into some unintentional exercise by revisiting her happy days as a stable girl?

An embarrassing illness is keeping Audrey and hubby Phil at arms length and Audrey seems to be suffering from a lack of affection. Lorraine will try to bring the couple closer together – perhaps not sleeping with the dog in between them would be a start!

Philip Chawner

Phil lost two stone in the first series, but will need to continue with this progress or his weight related health problems could bring his untimely demise.

As well as diabetes Phil has also been diagnosed with an irregular heart beat.
The left side of his heart isn’t working properly and Doctors have given Phil the shocking news he needs a pacemaker and if he doesn’t loose weight he may only have a few years left to live. He has also been told he could lose his legs to gangrene!

Phil has not worked for 13 years due his weight induced health problems, but he is considering the prospect of doing some charity work. Can Philip Chawner really contribute to society once again?

Jenny the Dog

Jenny the Dog

Jenny, the Chawner’s yappy Yorkshire Terrier, is the only member of the family without weight issues.  more...

Jenny, the Chawner’s yappy Yorkshire Terrier, is the only member of the family without weight issues. She may be the scourge of the postman but after hearing that Audrey feels closer to Jenny than she does to her own daughters, psychotherapist Phillip Hodson has suggested he gets Jenny into his therapist’s chair to uncover the mysterious hold she has over the family.

By far the most active member of the household, Jenny indulges in dangerous extreme sports such as sleeping between Phil and Audrey and stealing food from Audrey’s plate. Will Jenny’s gusto rub off on the rest of the Chawners? Good luck with that one Jenny!
